The grant provides 75% contribution to the cost of one chargepoint and its installation. A grant cap is set at £350 (including VAT) per installation. The main requirement is that a person owns, leases, or has ordered a qualifying vehicle and has dedicated off-street parking at their property. A person may apply for 2 chargepoints at the same property if they have 2 qualifying vehicles.
The advantages of having a dedicated EV chargepoint is:
- Faster charging, up to 60% quicker than a standard 13 amp lead.
- Most chargers come with the ability to pair with an application loaded onto your mobile device, giving you control when to charge and viewing battery levels.
- All equipment and cables are kept outside and out of view, with no need for running extension cables out of doors and windows to reach your vehicle on the drive.
Simple answer is yes. However it is important to make sure you choose the right energy tariff with your provider to keep the cost as low as possible, for example a tariff that offers off-peak prices.
The amount it will cost you will depend on how much charging you do, the type of charger and if you use public chargers as well.
